If I remember correctly there were special combat skills that you can learn (or get) if your weapon skill is high enough, like penetrating arrows. the question is if are they blocked completely if you're a magician?
@Sh00N, as far as I remember my mage had an opportunity to learn penetrating arrows. But I've never get 100 melee weapon as mage so I can't tell about it.
